Dear students! Section PRO BOOKS to introduce you into the world of Russian literature. Mikhail Lermontov’s 210th Birth Anniversary October 15th 2024 marks the 210th birth anniversary of Mikhail Yurievich Lermontov (1814-1841) He was not only a genius poet, but also a deep philosopher and a talented painter; he composed music, played the piano, the violin and the flute and had a rare gift of a chess player. Furthermore, he was a heroic officer who fought in battles in the Caucasus. It is written about his courage: “he was desperately brave; he surprised even the old Caucasian dzhigits with his boldness”. Mikhail Yuryevich flashed like a bright comet in the firmament of Russian culture, left a blinding light and died at the age of 26. This is how L. N. Tolstoy defined his special meaning for Russian literature: “If this boy survived, neither I, nor Dostoyevskiy would be needed.” Lermontov is the author of 36 narrative poems and 400 verses. His most well-known works are: The Prisoner of the Caucasus (1828), The Sail (1831), Masquerade (1835), Borodino (1837), The Death of the Poet (1837), The Novice (1839), Demon (1839), A Hero of Our Time (1838-1840).
