Mikhail Yuryevich LermontovOctober 15th the birthday of a great Russian poet - Mikhail Yuryevich Lermontov (1814-1841) He was not only a genius poet, but also a deep philosopher and a talented painter; he composed music, played the piano, the violin and the flute and had a rare gift of a chess player. Furthermore, he was a heroic officer who fought in battles in the Caucasus. It is written about his courage: “he was desperately brave; he surprised even the old Caucasian dzhigits with his boldness”. Mikhail Yuryevich flashed like a bright comet in the firmament of Russian culture, left a blinding light and died at the age of 26. This is how L. N. Tolstoy defined his special meaning for Russian literature: “If this boy survived, neither I, nor Dostoyevskiy would be needed.” Lermontov is the author of 36 narrative poems and 400 verses. His most well-known works are: The Prisoner of the Caucasus (1828), The Sail (1831), Masquerade (1835), Borodino (1837), The Death of the Poet (1837), The Novice (1839), Demon (1839), A Hero of Our Time (1838-1840).
